“Courage Doesn’t Always Roar” Rebellion in the Pink Photo-shoot.

Today at the studio we completed the photo-shoot Rebellion in the Pink for the fundraising event in aid if breast cancer research. A group of women of all ages got together to get naked for this shoot. Next on our agenda is to process the images and select the best for printing. The fundraising event will be held during the 3rd week in January, details will follow during the coming weeks.  Thank you to every one who attended.

Normally at this point I would waffle on and tell a story about what happened at the shoot to amuse you all but not today.

Among the women who volunteered for this shoot was Jill Charnley. Jill is recovering from breast cancer and before we started the shoot Jill asked me to read out a message on her behalf. That message says more than I ever can about why we are doing this so please read it, leave us your thoughts and if you can support us during this awareness and fundraising event then please do.

Jill’s message.

How does a day like any other become a day like no other?

Finding a lump in my breast whilst showering!  A daily habit turned into a fearful journey of tests, doctors, diagnosis, surgery and treatment. And Baldness!

May sound silly now, especially to those who have never been through the experience but one of the most painful parts of the whole process was the thought of losing my hair. Why?  maybe because I knew it would be an outward sign of the treatment chemicals invading my body and I would no longer be able to deny to myself or others that I had a life threatening illness.

I did not want to be defined  by my Illness. I was a woman with cancer but the cancer was not me! Then I thought, my hair will come back and so will I!

Cancer! Difficult to describe such a life changing experience in a few words but if I have to chose a few I guess that would be Fear and then Hope. I have found that Hope can be much stronger than Fear. So as I stand here on the road to recovery, thankful for the opportunity to share this with you I am asking you all to do me a favour…………check yourselves regularly, go for those mammograms when you get your appointments. I know a lot of women who throw them in the bin because they think the test is uncomfortable and sometimes a bit painful….  Well a few seconds of discomfort certainly is worth it if it means early detection.

If any of you or anyone you know is currently struggling to move from Fear to Hope remember…….

“Courage doesn’t always roar”, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of  the day saying ” I will try again tomorrow”

Jill Charnley.

Every one who attended the shoot and got naked! Watch this space!

Rebellion in Pink Update 1

Thank you to every one who has volunteered for this shoot the response has been quite astounding. We are going to create a unique image, raise  much-needed funds and perhaps more importantly raise awareness. I have been shocked  by the number of people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer in one way or another.

Vicci Kaighan is responsible for bringing this charity my attention during a conversation at our studio about a separate project so credit to Vicci for that and for recruiting so many volunteers.

I have arranged for a private viewing of the finished image at Crofters the date of which will be provided on Sunday. This will be for participants only prior to the exhibition night at Bar 5.

On Sunday I will be in my studio from 10am if you are going to Crofter’s for a meal before the shoot just call at the studio for a voucher for the free drink. The shoot will commence at 2pm with a bit of paperwork then into the shoot .I anticipate we will be finished by 3pm at the latest. If you have not already done it would be helpful if you could confirm your email, name and date of birth via our website  www.kellsphotos.com. this will save time on Sunday and I will send you information about the shoot that is for participants only.

If your partners are bringing you on Sunday they will be able to wait for you in Crofters where a few people are going before the shoot apparently! After the shoot I will be glad to join any going there  for a few beers.

Once again thanks to all of you and I look forward to meeting every one on Sunday.

Below is a copy of the original blog for any one who has not yet volunteered but is thinking about it. We are going to create an amazing image for a deserving cause, we have over 60 volunteers, but our studio is big enough for more so come on let’s make this as special as we can, the more the merrier and remember the most important thing you can bring is a sense of humour!  One last thought, 60 plus women in one studio is a lot of chiefs for one indian, I must be mad!

On Sunday 4th December at 2pm Kells Exclusive Images in conjunction with Crofters and Bar5 and The Nines are going to produce a spectacular piece of artwork to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. We need at least  70 women volunteers to star in this photo-shoot, a crowd scene. At the moment we have approximately 40, so more needed. The image that Mike Kells has in mind for this shoot is inspired  by Misha Gordin and Spencer Tunick and is a sort of derivative  of the 2 styles.  The general theme is Rebellion. Rebellion against apathy,  rebellion against complacency, going against the flow not with it. Forcing change not accepting the status quo. Making a difference.

Every one is welcome,  there are only 2 rules you must be female and  18 yrs old or over!  apart from that any age, shape, creed, colour, tint or hue is just fine, if you want to volunteer as groups of friends even better.

As with all Kells exhibition work the lighting, shading, composition and attention to detail will make this an image you will be proud to be a part of as well as helping raise funds for a worthwhile cause.  The finished image will be produced in  limited numbers. On the exhibition night every volunteer will receive a greetings card of the image printed to photographic quality, no more cards will be printed. There will be 3 large format prints presented on  diamond polished, optically pure Acrylic mounts  numbered, signed and complete with a certificate of authentication. The image will be exhibited for one night only during January 2012 at Bar 5 and The Nines. This will be a ticket only night and all the proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Research. As a volunteer you will be asked to sell tickets to this event and the volunteer who sells the most tickets will take home one of the Acrylics. A second acrylic will then be put into a prize draw, every one who attends will have their name in the prize draw so someone will be taking home the 2nd acrylic. The 3rd acrylic will be held by our studio for an event later in the year which will be announced nearer the time. No more large format acrylics will be printed. Then  for the exhibition night only orders can be placed for signed and numbered canvas prints at a special price tbc. All proceeds will got to Breast Cancer Research. No more orders will be taken after the exhibition night and no more canvas prints will be made. An electronic file of the image will be retained by Kells Exclusive Images for publicity and promotional purposes.

Lighting, shade and composition will make you look good naked for Rebellion In The Pink

On the day of the shoot ,Sunday 4th December 2012 every one will need to be at our studio for 2pm. Yes the shoot is indoors and Yes our studio is that big. The set will be ready and the shoot will take between 1 an 2 hours. If you want to get a meal before or after the shoot our sponsors from Crofters, which is right next door, will give every one who orders a meal a free glass of wine, just collect a voucher from the studio on the day which will be open from 10 am.

If you want to be a part of this event register at www.kellsphotos.com   stating your name age and email details we will then send you an information pack.

Ryder at The Nines and what The Blonde knows!

Shaun William Ryder live at The Nines,Barrow November 2011

After a full day of processing baby photographs then attending a wedding fayre at Chequers ,Dalton from 5 till 8, or till 9 if Dawn reads this, it was then down to the Nines to photograph Shaun Ryder. Whilst at the Chequers Hotel and chatting to a nameless blonde woman who was in charge of it all I asked what time  we would be finishing and the blonde said “why?” in a bossy sort of way.I told her because I got to get my tea and be at The Nines for 10 to photograph  Mr Shaun Ryder who was performing around  that time. “Bloody hell” she said “A Happy Monday in Barrow” I said it’s not Monday its Thursday. The blonde said “He was in the band the Happy Mondays and you should get out more”. I replied “Well thats ok then Shaun is a Happy Monday and I am a Working Thursday”. Taking sympathy on me she then said “If you are that hungry there are some licorice allsorts over there, feel free to help yourself.”  ”You should also be aware the he has got some new teeth” said the blonde.  ”How the fuck do you know that?, I asked whilst sorting out a hand full of the coconut variety all sorts. “I read it stupid. He was in the jungle celebrity thingy on the telly and he has led an interesting lifestyle, one consequence of which was he damaged his teeth but now he has got new ones” she informed me. I said “I think you should get out more”

Shaun Ryder at The Nines, Barrow November 2011

Any way later at the Nines, Mr Ryder and his band brought the house down. I’m Ryder’s newest fan, mind you me being 57 I doubt he will be overjoyed. It was a really good night that every one there seemed to enjoy and I’m glad I saw it. All the images are on our website www.kellsphotos.com including the one below, on here especially for The Blonde. It seems you may be right ,again.

Shaun Ryder A Happy Monday

In a League of Your Own 2

Scheduled for early in the New year the  next exhibition by Kells will be  ’In a League of Your Own’

In a League of Your Own sample image

The idea is to create images that are rich in colour, with carefully sculpted light and shadow to match the dramatic hair and make-up and all of this will be based on the colours of you or your partners favourite team. Just wearing a shirt from a team is not an enough on its own so we decided early on it needs to be more than that, but if you have the shirt then bring it! For these samples we decide to go with West Ham United colours. This tied in quite well with a shoot we were doing for Angy Morton and her infamous design based on a recycled West Ham kit.

In a League of your Own

Sensual art and football?  Why not indeed, lets do it. All the shoots will take place over the next 2 months and everyone who takes part will receive a 24 by 16 inch canvas.

Not every one wants to be on public display so you can of course book this shoot without taking part in the exhibition.  For details of cost and for more information about this project contact Kells on 07870 612 320 or via the contact page on our website  www.kellsphotos.com  and we will put you ‘In a League of Your Own’

Our team includes Racheal Salmon on the creative hair styling side of things as always, plus Kay Booth who has just completed a course with MAC for film and photography make-up. In our new studio we have invested in 10 new backdrops plus some more lighting equipment to enable more creative lighting.
